Just a girl who has not stopped dreaming …
Hi there! My name is Georgina and a very warm welcome to footsteps of an older woman, a title which may seem rather unusual 😊. I chose this because it reflects I, a woman in her fifties who is taking one footstep at a time to fulfil my wildest dreams of travelling around the world, falling in love and making great memories! I guess, I am just a girl who has not stopped dreaming, and one who believes that it is never too late to love and live a little. So, in this personal blog, I write, to share my stories and life experiences, through the very many photographs that I click-away, hoping to inspire and motivate individuals and couples over 50 as well as each of you reading this to think outside the box, to begin your footsteps to living your life, be it your wildest dreams of scuba diving in the Great Coral Reef, bungee jumping or even just holding hands with your better half on a beach whilst watching the sunset over tequilas – whatever it is, I wish you to get planning, get out there and get discovering this beautiful world of ours because as you have so often heard people say, “life is too short” and indeed, it is.
My take on “life” is that I think life is about space, time and love. Space to grow, space to spread your wings, your thoughts and space to just wander…where time can sometimes stand still, and sometimes not, but it allows you to feel different, feel lighter, feel emotional, happy, sad, and whatever…it allows you to feel you! It is through this roller-coaster of “feelings” is when you discover you, your passion, your beliefs and your values. It reignites your deeper sense towards self-accomplishment and self-fulfilment – about loving ‘you’ and when you think about it, it almost always begins with a desire, passion or a dream to do something. I hope it makes sense then, when I say that, “You need to believe in your dream, your vision, and live your life for your purpose, regardless of your age. Age, after-all is just a number!” Correct? So, when I was 52, I gave up work and ditched the stereotypical concept of what a mother in her fifties should and ought to be, refused to listen to all the “noise” that went around me and decided to embrace some new life-changing goals. What brought me here, to a point in my life where I decided to redefine myself and reignite the purpose of feeling real is a different story altogether, one I would share with you on another day. Looking back, I have absolutely no regrets, everything happened for a reason, a piece of a puzzle that will eventually fit together at the end.
Though I am a woman in her fifties, unashamedly, I am very much a child at heart, ever ready with a bowl of popcorn in front of the telly to watch my favourite ‘silly bear’ (Winnie the Pooh) or Tom & Jerry or Scooby-scooby-doo! I am also a believer in true love, a dreamer of beautiful sunsets, sandy beaches, twinkling stars in the night sky and adventures in the mountains! I can get through a whole box of tissues watching ‘Sleepless in Seattle’, no matter how many times I watch it! What I am saying is that I know that I am not perfect, and I do not pretend to be! So, I try, in my every step, to strive to grow and stretch myself, but I promise myself to never to grow old in my heart or my bones. With my restless feet and a great desire to see and embrace the cultures of the world, I began this journey of discovery …
In retrospect, I guess my journey really began when I was growing up in Malaysia. I was an avid reader of fiction books, novels and magazines. Reading these books created a desire within me to ‘leave’ and see what was beyond the horizon. There was something about the winter backdrop, Georgian houses and the tiny warm lights from the distant reflecting off the snow which drew me to England. The warmth of log fires and ginger bread houses and children playing… I am immensely fortunate to have brought up my two adorable children in a place which I have grown to consider to be my home.
As I embrace the next chapter in my life, footstepsofanolderwoman.com will be a log of my 50+ journey, the ups-and-downs, the challenges, the re-living, and reigniting my passion to explore this amazingly beautiful world of ours and embracing all the cultures along the way, not forgetting the food, of course😊. Travel: I share my travel experiences to various destinations and offer ideas to help you plan your journeys, so you can create memories too. Travel need not be expensive or break ‘your bank’! It does not always have to be the 5-star over-indulge type of lifestyle when you cannot afford it. I do not travel on the cheap but I do insist on a certain degree of uncompromising comfort and safety, which by no means extravagant. I do believe life in its simplicity also works! A quiet romantic river-walk is equally meaningful as that of a dinner in a 5-star restaurant. So, planning a holiday beforehand is crucial. A well-planned travel itinerary within a predetermined budget range will do wonders to a meaningful and memorable holiday – it is this that I will aspire to do for you, by combining my expertise, local knowledge and contacts with local travel agents of your holiday destination, I can create bespoke itineraries for solo and couples over 50 who are seeking to make memories of their own. You can get in touch with me via the contact page or directly on email, email@example.com for further information. Equally, if you like the excitement of planning your own holiday itineraries through informed decision-making or have an off the beaten path kind of adventure, you can look-up:

Photography: I truly believe that The World is a Beautiful Place…I tell my stories and my experiences through my lens and my very own photographs, although sometimes photographs do not do much justice to the real-feel of the sunsets or the cool breeze against your skin, but it does speak a thousand words! Good photographs do convey the vibrancy and the beauty of nature which I try to transpose through my photographs featured in my blogs and in my social media. Any, and all my photos are available for prints. Please get in touch if you need them.
Food & Drink: If there is one thing that I love just as much as travelling, it is food. As a Malaysian, I grew up experiencing one of the most flavourful cuisines in the world. A country which is often referred to as “the crossroads of Asia”, Malaysian cooking uses ingredients and cooking styles which reflects a fusion of Indian, Chinese, Indonesian and Thai. Although, they are not spicy-hot, they are full of flavour and has contributed to me having an adventurous palette when it comes to culinary delights and the mouth-watering dishes I get to enjoy during my travels.

This site will evolve as I continue to live one grand adventure at a time, in my own way, sharing my perspectives on the places I visit, the cultures I embrace and life generally. My ultimate aims are much simpler – that my stories will touch and inspire the rare free soul like me to live an adventurous life and put less things off until “someday” and live the best life right here right now. Life is indeed too short to be spent thinking and the world is too beautiful to be missed. As you may know, there are and will always be, obstacles, reasons or something more important that will hold us back from doing what we want to do. Take it from me, a professional, a mother, an older woman – one who is still far too young and adventurous, who has been where you are, is now, ever so slowly stepping onto the other side to live her dreams. There is no better time than NOW, no matter how old you are.
So, I invite you to come with me, plan your next trip and experience the wonder of it all …Where would your next adventure take you? Get in touch via the comments box below. I would love to hear from you.
